Believe in Youth – Louisiana (BY-LA) Program Facilitator

The Program Facilitator is primarily responsible for the implementation of program activities of the BY-LA Program. This is a full-time, salaried position under the supervision of the BY-LA Program Manager. The BY-LA program is a teen pregnancy and HIV prevention program focusing on African American and Latino youth, ages 11-19 in Louisiana Regions 1, 3 and St. Martin and Iberia parishes. S/he will support the Program Manager in the implementation of the program and community engagement activities. The Program Facilitator will also conduct data entry for project evaluation and also support outreach and recruitment activities.

Every Mother Initiative (EMI) Data Entry Administrative Assistant

Position: Contract Worker- EMI Data Entry Administrative Assistant
Time Period: 200-300 hours in Fall of 2015

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Data Entry Administrative Assistant will be responsible for data entry through the Louisiana Office of Public Health’s Epi Info Database for its Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review Program (PAMR). The Data Entry Administrative Assistant will report to the Mortality Surveillance Coordinator and work with the EMI Team to prioritize, code, and enter completed PAMR abstractions. In addition to data entry, the Assistant may be asked to help prepare information for EMI as needed.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work on repetitive tasks independently.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with human subjects protection in research, CITI trained.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Internship – Breastfeeding Program – Application deadline: August 28

Location:           La DHH-OPH-Bureau of Family Health, Breastfeeding Program
Hours:               10 hours/week
Stipend:             $3600 (300 hours at $12/hour)
Time:                  Internship begins September 2015

Background
The Louisiana Office of Public Health, Bureau of Family Health (BFH) is the recipient of the Title V Maternal and Child Block Grant funds and the Title X Family Planning Grant funds for the State of Louisiana. With these funds, the Bureau manages family planning services, pregnancy prevention, mortality surveillance (fetal, infant, child, and maternal), pregnancy and maternal child health educational initiatives as well as domestic violence prevention.

Main Activities
This internship will enable the student to gain valuable insights as he/she provides programmatic support to a state-wide breastfeeding initiative.

  • Identify and assist breastfeeding stakeholders with creating profiles on a database
  • Maintain/improve the database of breastfeeding stakeholders
  • Prepare reports and present results to BFH staff
  • Work with local coalitions and the state team to organize community breastfeeding training that will target hospital staff and community MCH/ breastfeeding stakeholders
  • Assist with organizing a community networking event
  • Communicate with breastfeeding stakeholders via phone and email
  • Attend BFH related meetings, conference calls, etc.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Program Coordinator for Louisiana Breastfeeding Program

Southeast Louisiana Area Health Education Center together with the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) Office of Public Health (OPH) Bureau of Family Health (BFH) seeks a full time program coordinator who will be responsible for the coordination of statewide, regional and community efforts to help build and strengthen the state’s breastfeeding program. Duties will include:  identifying and cultivating partnerships needed to develop and advance a collective impact strategy around breastfeeding; providing hands on technical assistance to hospital leaders and staff and facilitating sharing of best practices around prenatal and post-natal breastfeeding education and support; coordinate a physician office-based training; presenting information to community partners and to relevant agencies; assisting with collection of data to track program integrity and success. Statewide travel will be required. Position location: New Orleans.

Qualifications: Masters in Public Health, Public Policy, or other relevant field. Experience working in breastfeeding promotion. Experience working with diverse populations and community engagement. Excellent communication skills.
