The BY-LA program is a teen pregnancy and HIV prevention program focusing on African American and Latino youth, ages 11-19 in Louisiana Regions 1, 3 and St. Martin and Iberia parishes. S/he will support the Program Manager in the implementation of the program and community engagement activities. MCH Epidemiologist position with Virginia Department of Health – apply by January 10

This position performs maternal and child health epidemiology functions for the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). This position will be responsible for surveillance, communication, investigation, reporting, and data driven education and mobilization for the Maternal and Child Health program with a specific focus on supporting the Title V block grant. Successful employees show initiative, work well with others, and can function in a dynamic environment. Surveillance activities include collecting, analyzing, and interpreting science-based data from multiple sources such as vital statistics. Communication functions include accurately disseminating results to support science-based decisions to decision makers and the target audience often using data visualization tools and the VDH website. Education tasks include technical assistance for state and local public health staff in the use of local health data. Current grants emphasize preconception, interconception, and women’s health; the role of this position will be to assist in the engagement of community partnerships to reach health goals. Job opening – Social Marketing Intern

Acadiana C.A.R.E.S. in collaboration with the Louisiana Office of Public Health STD/HIV Program is looking for a responsible Social Media Marketing Intern to fill a 12-week, paid internship opportunity that will begin September 26th and conclude on December 16th. The Intern will provide assistance to SHP Prevention staff to support social marketing initiatives and activities. The intern’s primary responsibility will be developing a social marketing strategy and routine posting schedule for our social media platform and support smaller projects as needed. The breadth of the internship experience may include basic graphic design (infographics), short videos, website maintenance, and micro-blogs. Prior to the end of their semester, the intern will submit an evaluation report analyzing trends against their social marketing strategy.

* Current student earning a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in public health, social work, marketing, communications, journalism or related field .
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey ideas and facts in a concise and accurate manner.

Contraceptive Access Initiative Manager

The LDH OPH BFH Clinical Services Team seeks a full-time Program Manager for a new statewide Contraceptive Access Initiative (herein referred to as the Initiative) to reduce unintended pregnancy through increased provision of the full range of FDA-approved family planning methods, including highly-effective Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC). The Initiative will seek to engage a wide range of community providers in training, technical assistance, and quality improvement work, as well as to develop and promote policies which support widespread, equitable access to contraception. 


  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, social work, health related field or another field directly related to duties listed below;
    • Master’s Degree preferred
  • Experience in program design and implementation
  • Experience in project outreach and promotion
  • Experience in quality improvement in a health care setting
  • Experience working with Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Clinics, and/or other primary care providers
  • Strong organizational, oral and interpersonal communication, and writing skills
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office computer programs
  • Willing to travel locally and nationally for job duties


Desired Skills, Knowledge, Attitudes:

  • Understanding of women’s reproductive health issues, including and especially the complexities of pregnancy intention and desire, barriers to contraceptive access, the important role of reproductive justice, and health disparities
  • Knowledge of reproductive health care best practices and medical guidelines, particularly the QFP as relates to contraception:
    • Patient-centered care & Shared-decision making
    • Quality counseling and patient education (RLP, MI, Tiered Contraceptive Counseling, Risk Reduction, Teach Back, etc)
    • Contraceptive methods/technology including LARCs
    • Adolescent-friendly reproductive health services
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records/Electronic Practice Management
  • Knowledge of FQHC/RHC models, practice, regulation, etc.
  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Ability to organize, multi-task, prioritize, and delegate appropriately to manage towards aggressive timelines and targets.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and manage self towards goals, while being a genuine “team player”
  • Value team-based work and collaboration with both clinical and non-clinical team members.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community health care providers and agencies to promote and sustain the Initiative


Key Responsibilities & Functions:

  • Leadership & Strategic Vision
    • Set a strategic vision and operational plan for increasing contraceptive access through a coordinated statewide initiative, including both short-term and long-range plans
    • Effectively communicates with public health agencies and private organizations at the state and local level with the potential to be strategic partners in promoting contraceptive access
    • Maintains a professional knowledge of elements central to success of the Initiative’s goals
      • evidence-based programs and best practices
      • cultural, social, and behavioral factors that contribute to the issues of unintended pregnancy and contraceptive access
      • health systems and policy reform.
  • Management & Supervision
    • Manage all aspects of Contraceptive Access Initiative, including but not limited to Provider Needs Assessment; Initiative Outreach & Promotion; Provider Recruitment & Retention; Training & Technical Assistance Development and Implementation; Policy Development; Monitoring & Evaluation
    • Develop comprehensive work plan for Initiative with timeline and targets; monitor progress regularly
    • Collaborate with BFH Business Operations Unit to develop and monitor budget
    • Actively identify related funding opportunities to increase sustainability of the Initiative; assist in the preparation of funding applications and reports as needed.
    • Supervise applicable staff, including but not limited to the Data Coordinator and the Training Coordinator.
  • Policy
    • Lead the development of OPH BFH policy proposals related to contraceptive access
  • Relationship-Building & Recruitment
    • Develop and coordinate outreach efforts to increase provider awareness about the initiative, the associated resources, and the need for increased contraceptive access
    • Recruit clinical systems, clinics, providers, and/or other partners to participate in the Initiative
    • Design and coordinate Mini-RFA process for selecting Initiative cohort(s)
  • Contracts
    • Identify contractors for execution of Initiative activities
    • Work with BFH Business Operations to develop scopes of work, RFAs, sole source justification language, etc, as appropriate to execute needed contracts
    • Manage and monitor contractor performance and compliance

Position Summary:
The Executive Director will give direction and leadership toward the achievement of EverThrive IL’s philosophy, mission, strategy, and its annual goals and objectives. Other key duties include administration, program management, fund development, marketing, and community outreach. Open position – Health System Strategy Manager

Southeast Louisiana Area Health Education Center has an opening for a Health System Strategy Manager. This full time position with the Louisiana Office of Public Health, Bureau of Family Health (BFH) will be a vital source of information and coordinated strategies for improving health systems. Experiences public health, health administration, and health policy are preferred. The Health System Strategy Manager will be expected to:

  • Maintain ongoing, current, and detailed knowledge of health and supportive services, including Medicaid and other federal, state, and local resources that provide respite and personal assistance services in particular for the maternal and child health populations and families; ensure concise up-to-date summary of eligibility criteria for program and services.
  • Manage the BFH workplans related to monitoring and improving insurance coverage and insurance adequacy.
  • Work with the BFH Director and program team leads to inform policy and data driven analytic work related to access to care, payment policy, managed care, prescription drug policy, Medicare-Medicaid dual eligible populations, Medicaid and Medicare data systems, health care quality, and health care financing.
  • Work with BFH Data to Action Team and Healthy Equity Lead to translate research about health service access, quality, and accountability into meaningful policy analysis; develop and deliver presentations, and write effective communications pertaining to health care access in Louisiana.
  • Serve as principal liaison with Louisiana Medicaid Managed Care Plans to coordinate BFH resources and services with the plans; maintain ongoing relationship with DHH Medicaid in order to stay informed of pending changes to eligibility and Medicaid programs.
  • Review policy and state and federal laws and regulations to understand current issues and health priorities.
  • Research and identify policy and waiver changes in other states to highlight leading practices, potential risks and solutions to client initiatives.
  • Conduct educational programs and training for BFH staff and partners on Medicare, Medicare Managed Care, Medicaid, and other major systems affecting health and healthcare.
  • Understand the Community Health Needs Assessment and Community Benefit requirements for non-profit hospitals; develop and maintain a plan for how BFH will proactively intersect with these organizations for mutual benefit.
