Job Summary:
The Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for the coordination of program activities of the Believe in Youth! NOLA! Program. This is a full-time, salaried position under the supervision of the Believe in Youth! NOLA Program Manager. The Believe in Youth! NOLA! Program is a teen pregnancy and HIV prevention program targeting African American and Latino youth, ages 11-13 in Orleans and Jefferson parishes. S/he will support the Program Manager in all phases of the planning and implementation of the program, including reporting and community engagement activities. The Program Coordinator will also conduct data entry for project evaluation, and manage databases to keep track of the progress of project deliverables, evaluation and performance measures. S/he will also support outreach and recruitment activities.

Organizational Relationship:
The Program Coordinator reports to the Program Manager on assigned project activities. The Program Coordinator may work with the Executive Director and Program Director other IWES staff on other related activities and events as needed or when applicable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate recruitment and retention of project participants in all programmatic participants.
  • Maintain coordination with the project staff, participants (including parents and families), and community partners for scheduling of implementation activities.
  • Provide general programmatic support to Program Manager as needed.
  • Facilitate planning and implementation of BY! NOLA! program sessions and activities (at least weekly).
  • Assist in maintaining participant database for monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Develop strategies for recruiting and retaining project participants.
  • Assist the Program Manager and other program staff in maintaining and developing program activities, including reports, correspondence, and supporting materials.
  • Assist in developing promotional and educational materials for programs and initiatives.
  • Distribute programmatic and health information at community events including health fairs.
  • Plan and organize youth graduation ceremonies.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, or equivalent. Graduate degree highly preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with program design, implantation and evaluation; and community organizing, coalition building
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities relating to youth risk reduction (i.e teen pregnancy prevention/ HIV prevention) interventions, sexual and reproductive health, adolescent health
  • Working knowledge of research methodologies, database management and program evaluation
  • Sensitivity to cultural, racial, ethnic, linguistic and sexual diversity
  • Proficiency in current versions of Windows, Word Perfect, Microsoft Word; and Microsoft PowerPoint; proficiency with applicable analytical and evaluation software, database and spreadsheet programs, such as Microsoft Excel and Access, email programs, and Internet.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, preferably including experience in cross-cultural exchanges.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Proficiency in Spanish a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to organizational mission is essential.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Willingness to work night and weekend hours as requested; Periodic travel is necessary

Special Requirements:
Willingness to work occasional night and weekend hours. Limited travel may be necessary.
