Emerging MCH Graduate Student Scholarships

The Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP) is a national resource, partner and advocate for state public health leaders and others working to improve the health of women, children, youth and families, including those with special health care needs.


Scholarship funds are designed to assist graduate students in furthering their education as promising maternal and child health (MCH) professionals while sponsoring their attendance at the AMCHP Annual Conference to hone their leadership skills and connect them with existing leaders within MCH.

  • Provide a leadership development opportunity for emerging MCH leaders
  • Open opportunities to network with MCH professionals and families nationally
  • Establish a forum to learn about emerging and national MCH issues related to women, children, youth and families, including those with special health care needs
  • Support the educational development of graduate students by providing funds for education-related expenses
  • Develop advocates for Title V and MCH programs.

The scholarship will provide up to $1,500 for educational expenses and up to $1,000, to attend the AMCHP Annual Conference.  Scholars selected in fall 2013 would receive funds to support the current year of study and attendance at the 2014 conference, to be held January 25-28, 2014 in Washington, DC.


  • First time attendee at the AMCHP Annual Conference
  • Graduate degree candidate in last year of program (master or doctoral level) with a strong MCH focus
  • Preference given to those that have interned, worked or volunteered in a Title V or Title V-funded program
  • Has minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
  • Can attend at least three days of the conference
  • Two reference forms, one which must be from a Title V-related staff person and another from an academic representative. Refer to the reference form for details
  • Consistent, active participation in public and/or community service activities.


There are three components to the application process. The first and second components are due by Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at 8 p.m. EST. The third item will be requested of the scholarship recipient by AMCHP staff at a later date.

UNC Minority Health Conference, Youth Health- call for abstracts


The UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health invites abstract submissions for poster presentations at the Minority Health Conference, “Innovative Approaches to Youth Health: Engaging Youth in Building Healthy Communities” on February 28, 2014  in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Abstracts that describe traditional research and/or community-based practice are welcome.  This is an interdisciplinary conference, and submissions will be accepted from researchers, practitioners, community members, community organizations, and students from a variety of fields. Due to this year’s conference theme, there is a strong preference for interventions in which youth played an active role.

Child Family Health International experience scholarships


CFHI PROGRAM OPENINGS: CFHI places students on 1-4 month placements alongside local healthcare professionals in underserved communities.  Participants rotate through clinics and hospitals, attend medical lectures, and become immersed in the healthcare system of the community. CFHI programs showcase local experts and support underserved communities abroad.

CFHI is currently accepting rolling applications for its global health programs through 2014, and still has a few last minute spots left for November and December 2013! Last minute applicants should contact CFHI to get started on expediting their application.

Free ‘How to’ Seminar 10/17/13

Shokufeh Ramirez, MPH, of the Tulane Maternal & Child Health Leadership Training Program will speak on the best ways to utilize your time at this year’s American Public Health Association Annual Meeting & Expo this November in Boston, MA.

This conference attracts more than 12,000 public health attendees and is the largest and oldest public health meeting in the world. She will discuss how to get around, how to connect with others, what to bring, and how to get organized before you go. If you are going, or plan to go to this conference in the near future, this presentation is a must!

‘How to Do an Oral Presentation’ seminar 10/8/13

Please join us for the final installment of the Tulane PRC & MCHLT’s How-To Communication Lecture Series of the semester!

Taby Ahsan, Ph.D, Assistant Professor at Tulane’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, Center for Stem Cell Research & Regenerative Medicine, Center for Aging will discuss “How to Do an Oral Presentation,” covering how to customize presentations to an audience, developing and delivering an oral presentation, as well as features to consider including.
