OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :

The objective of the U.S-Mexico Border Diabetes Prevention and Control Project is to reduce the burden of diabetes among persons with type 2 diabetes living in the United States-Mexico Border region through the development and implementation of a diabetes prevention and control pilot study along the United States-Mexico Border.

Description of duties:

Under the director supervision of Project Research Coordinator and the general supervision of the PAHO Chief, Field Office U.S. Mexico Border, the incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

a) Collaborate in the development of project materials; manuals, reports and a calendar of activities

b) Coordinate project trainings; ensure project activities are on time

c) Collect process data mostly regarding implementation of project activities and jointly with the Research Supervisor, reviews data generated from each of the participating sites for reporting and evaluating purposes;

d) Establish and maintains regular contact with project participants to ensure implementation of operational Manual

e) Review field activities to assure adherence with project objectives and procedures;

f) Support the production and dissemination of educational materials;

g) Establish and maintains regular contact with laboratory equipment providers to facilitate project implementation;

h) Collaborate in the development, reads and produces scientific documents for public and peer review

i) Collaborate in the development of proposals

j) Collaborate in coordination of the activities of the Community Intervention Committee and the Steering Committee as required

k) Formative supervision of CHW

l) Supervision of Clinic Supervisor

m) Perform other duties as assigned in support of the project objectives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

A bachelor’s degree in one of the health and/or social sciences or related field from an accredited institution.

Skills:

Technical Expertise:

– Thorough understanding of the “promotora” model for diabetes care;

– Practical experience in training development, implementation, and evaluation.

– Practical experience in program implementation and supervision.

– Practical experience in community work and proven track-records for good interpersonal relationships.

– Practical experience in proposal writing.

– Practical experience in evaluative research.

– Ability to devise and deliver group presentations in both English and Spanish.

– Ability to use data analysis software such as SUDDAN, SAS and STRATA and use in statistical measurement.

IT Skills:

Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Other IT skills and knowledge of other software programs such as Visio, Microsoft SharePoint and Project would be an asset.

Experience:

Three years of combined national and international experience in U.S.-Mexico Border health issues with emphasis on diabetes and non-communicable diseases.

Languages:

Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)

34,760 at single rate

36,849 with primary dependants

Post Adjustment: 40.2 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
