New York City Epi Scholars Program

The New York City Epi Scholars Program is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for the 2009 summer session. The NYC Epi Scholars Program is a training program for graduate epidemiology students interested in health disparities research at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH). The program provides an opportunity for students to gain practical skills in health disparities research; work under the guidance of leading epidemiologists; train in a local health environment; and expand practical epidemiological skills and methods through supplemental seminars, forums and workshops. Scholars have the opportunity to also use data for thesis development, as well as work on peer-reviewed manuscripts.

Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program

The U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps offers an internship program called the JRCOSTEP (Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program). The Environmental Health Officer category of the USPHS would like to invite MPH and MSPH students who are specializing in environmental health and have completed the first year of their program by May 2009 to apply for a JRCOSTEP opportunity. Although there is no formal deadline, we encourage students to submit their application by December 31st, 2008, because applications will be reviewed starting in January for Summer 2009 positions.

School Health and Nutrition internship – Afghanistan

The intern will assist Save the Children Afghanistan Country Office School Health and Nutrition (SHN) programming through developing materials for Child-Focused Health Education activities as well as test Adolescent Development (AD/ARSH) materials. The intern will also support program development through conducting a simple qualitative study and providing photography technical assistance in rural northern Afghanistan.
