Student positions with Veterans Health Administration
Students applying for either student position must be registered as a student for the summer or fall 2009 academic session. We anticipate these positions will be approximately 20 hours a week during the summer with the potential to continue into the fall semester and possibly through May 2010. Interested students should submit a cover letter identifying the position of interest, proof of student status (at least part-time) and a resume to the VHA Healthcare Retention & Recruitment Office, 1555 Poydras Street, Suite 1971, New Orleans, LA 70112. These are paid student positions with a salary range of $12-$14 dollars per hour.

Apprenticeships in Public Health
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is seeking individuals for participation in the Public Health Apprentice Program (PHAP), a three-year program providing frontline work experience and training in public health. Apprentices are involved in a wide variety of public health activities relating to disease control and prevention and health promotion. Apprenticeships involve a series of progressive assignments in local health departments beginning on or about July 20, 2009. Successful completion of the program will prepare Apprentices for future career opportunities in public health at national, state and local levels.

PEPFAR Strategic Information Liaison/Deputy Coordinator
The PEFFAR Strategic Information Liaison/Deputy Coordinator will assist the PEPFAR-Namibia Country Coordinator and team Namibia in managing critical and time-sensitive communications and work products between and among the various USG departments and agencies involved in the Emergency Plan. S/he will liaise routinely with the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator in the US State Department (particularly the Namibia Interagency Core Team and Country Lead), with designated USG/Windhoek counterparts, and with representatives of the USG PEPFAR Interagency Country Team. In the absence of the Country Coordinator, S/he will serve as the Acting Country Coordinator.

Senior Surveillance Advisor
The Surveillance Advisor will provide broad HIV/AIDS-related expertise and guidance in program evaluation and monitoring; strengthen USAID’s ability to monitor program implementation; document results; and assess the programmatic impact of USAID’s goal to reduce HIV transmission and mitigate the impact of the disease on nations, communities and families. The Surveillance Advisor will also be a key contributor to the design and implementation of surveillance systems and reporting program results in the priority countries under the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and in other USAID-assisted countries.

Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor
The Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor will serve as a member of the Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting (MER) Team within the Strategic Planning, Evaluation and Research Division in the Office of HIV/AIDS of the Bureau for Global Health (GH/OHA/SPER) and support the monitoring and evaluation activities within the Division. Under the direction of the MER Team Leader, the Advisor will provide general support to the Division’s activities that include project performance monitoring, program level data gathering/validation, trend monitoring and reporting. Working closely with the MER Team, the Advisor will support the development of HIV/AIDS surveillance systems, and assist with the oversight, management and reporting on HIV/AIDS surveillance indicators and targets for these activities. He/she will serve as the Division’s specialist for monitoring and evaluation, provide technical input on surveys and assist with operational research, tracking studies, and program assessments.
