This Senior Analyst II position is a member of the Community Health primary work team and contributes to the advancement of local public health practice by performing a range of responsibilities related to immunization and related vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology. Senior MCH Epidemiologist/researcher

Florida Department of Health – Tallahassee, Florida
This position conducts epidemiologic research to identify determinants and risk factors for maternal and child health outcomes. This position also participates as a team member on projects that include primary data collection, analysis, and presentation for program evaluation activities. This is work includes designing, delivering and/or coordinating the delivery of training and development programs for employees. With input from the State MCH Epidemiologist, the position supervises/directs the work of two masters-prepared epidemiologists.

Fellowship in Occupational Health

The fellow will have a unique opportunity to take the lead in developing a national prevention campaign that will focus on changing the workplace culture regarding injuries and fatalities. To accomplish the program objectives of developing a protocol for a national prevention campaign, the research fellow will first undertake the following activities: review the scientific literature on workplace culture, develop a knowledge base concerning behavioral change theories, and understand
their application to the workplace as it relates to implementing a targeted prevention campaign. The next phase of the fellowship is designed to ensure the fellow gains a first-hand perspective on the current culture of the retail/wholesale businesses where injuries and even fatalities have occurred. Once a protocol has been developed, peer reviewed, and approved, the research fellow will initiate, with the support of one or more WRT employers, one or more demonstration studies that will provide the empirical support for the prevention campaign theme: “Work Smart at the Right Height.”

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Sleep Research

The fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with senior scientists in the Division of Adult and Community Health, using SAS and SUDAAN to analyze BRFSS and other sleep and chronic disease data. The fellow will also have the opportunity to manage data, perform multivariable analyses, and collaborate with senior scientists in the preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals as well as for scientific presentations.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in STD Prevention

This STD prevention fellowship will emphasize epidemiology, behavioral science, health services research, and prevention of STDs. Under supervision and mentorship, fellows will pursue one or more research projects directly relevant to careers in public health, STD epidemiology, and prevention. Examples include research in provision of STD prevention services, research in STD/HIV interaction, analysis of traditional or innovative approaches to STD prevention and control such as partner notification or peer counseling; and behavioral intervention research.
The proposed fellowship’s major component consists of research training that emphasizes STD epidemiology, behavioral sciences, prevention and/or service delivery at the Division of STD Prevention (DSTD), National Centers for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHSTP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
